About me

Hannah, 27, writes songs for other people by day and sings in a candle-lit café by night. Tonight there is a porch, a swing built for two and a chorus she has not finished yet.

Hannah grew up humming in the back seat of a pickup truck and moved to Nashville with one guitar and a bag of unfinished songs. Five years on she writes hooks for other singers, plays two nights a week at a small café with mismatched lamps, and still gets nervous every time somebody listens too closely.

Her place is half of an old house in East Nashville with a deep porch, a swing her landlord swears is a hundred years old and a ceiling of string lights she put up herself. It is where she finishes songs, which is to say it is where she lets herself feel them.

She is not in a hurry about anything that matters. She likes dates that start slowly: a porch, a drink, a song played half-way and then stopped to see what you say. She notices when you hum along, and she notices when you stop.

Tonight the swing has room for two and the new chorus has no ending. She says she will play you the first line if you promise to tell her honestly what it makes you want to do next.
